The Free Trader Alert Service (FTAS) is a news and information device of the Bureau of Merchant Subsidy. The Bureau's aim is to the support efforts of the independent traders on whom the Spinward Marches so heavily rely for transportation of people, goods and information.

"Lightning's Hand" strikes twice

Two recent terror acts claimed by anti-occupation group

The radical Sword World terrorist group, who call themselves Lightning's Hand, have made two new violent attacks on Imperial citizens. The result has been death and disruption at two busy installations in the Lanth subsector. At Lanth Downport, on the 117th, an incendiary device was detonated in a petrochemicals loading area. Four starport workers were killed in the explosion or resulting fire, which burned for six hours. Though the damage was contained in the pit-style loading area, the smoke plume caused mass confusion with air traffic in the vicinity. A Free Trader and two small craft in the loading area were extensively damaged in the incident. The starship's watch was able to seal himself in the bridge area of the vessel while the fire blazed in the ship's hold and engineering sections.

The two acts were carried out almost simultaneously at Lanth and D'Ganzio

A less destructive, but equally disturbing incident was carried out at D'Ganzio almost at the same moment of the explosion on Lanth. An unmanned Yacht belonging to the daughter of a Corea Merchant Lines VP, fired three missiles at the Naval installation. Base defenses were able to disable the missiles before detonation, but not before they were one target toward the depot. Two of the missiles punctured the containment dome, showering the personnel areas with debris. Though no casualties were reported, extensive repairs to the facility will be necessary. If the missiles had not been disarmed prior to impact, it is estimated that the lives of thirty Naval personnel were at stake.

Imperial agents remain in the dark about the antagonists

These become the twelfth and thirteenth acts of terrorism attributed to Lightning's Hand in the past year. The group contends that Imperial occupation of several systems in the Sword Worlds subsector is an act of war against all Sword Worlders. They have promised to continue waging war against the Imperium until the occupation ends. They have targeted military installations and starports in the Lanth and Lunion subsectors and attempted to kidnap the Imperial Attaché to Rhylanor when she visited Equus for the reopening of the IISS base. None of their members have been apprehended or identified. A 4 Mcr. reward has been offered by the Duke for information leading to the capture of the terrorists. The government of the Sword Worlds denies any knowledge or support of the group. Imperial agents at Caladbolg have attempted to prosecute a local cartel for supporting the group, but their case was dropped when their informant destroyed with the evidence and fled the system.

Advisory for traders and travelers in the area

At this time there does not appear to be any pattern for location of the attacks. All passenger carriers should be on their guard for suspicious persons and cargoes. All questionable activities should be reported to the nearest starport authority or Imperial representative.
